Seismic rupture parameters based on the source directivity analysis of the broadband teleseismic P-waves for deep earthquakes in the NW Japan subduction zone

So-Young Baag, Junkee Rhie, Seongryong Kim, Tae-Seob Kang, Changsoo Cho

Representative figure

Twelve schematic deep-earthquake fault planes with arrows and ellipses marking inferred rupture directions and subevents beneath northwestern Japan.

Smaller events generally rupture faster and larger multi-subevent events more slowly; the duration–moment slope is about 0.26 and rupture lengths are 8.6–30.9 km.
